The specific purpose of the Axis 5 is to promote long-term eco-sustainability of economic development. It is part of the wider strategy implemented by EU member states and is confirmed by the national strategic framework to “promote opportunities of local development by the launch of production chains connected to the increase of energy share produced by renewable resources and energy savings”. Particularly, Axis 5 enhances those actions related to the enterprise system aiming at limiting and controlling its negative impacts on environment, by strengthening at the same time the regional energy system. The activities fostered by Axis 5 address the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol goals which establish the reduction of greenhouse gases on a global scale and requires Italy to reduce its own greenhouses gases for 2008-2012 by 6,5% compared to 1990 rates.
